I love NYRB Classics -- mostly thanks to you, for introducing me to Skylark, one of my favorite books now. I've put this on the list. God only knows, though, when I'll spot these in the bookshelves here.

Thank you!

That cover is stupendous! I'm really struggling not to buy it - do I really need two copies of what I think is Moore's best work? The answer - before anyone twists my arm - is no! Perhaps I'll treat myself once I've read all his novels. (And I'm intending restarting thet project following this year's Edinburgh Book Festival.)

In the meantime, Trevor, if you'd consider becoming one of the contributors on TheMooreTheMerrier project (it's all in the title), please drop me an email.

Excellent review, I really want to read this now, particularly as it's set in Belfast and I'm reading a series of books set in Northern Ireland at the moment.

I'll be particularly interested to see whether the female voice sounds authentic...

I've seen the film version. It is good but doesn't quite capture the same feeling as the book. And they changed the ending, which is a shame.

This is a bit of a coincidence as I'm reading Moore's The Doctor's Wife and The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne just arrived yesterday. I also watch NYRB classics--they really do a great job of unearthing some of these neglected classics.

Have you seen the film version, BTW? I haven't and wondered if you had, what you thought of it?

Another exceptional writer that's passed me by until recently. And what a cover! All in all, a must.

Thanks for the link, Colette. I have a lot to look forward to I see!

John, I will read Moore more. Today, in fact, I purchased The Temptation of Eileen Hughes. I see he has a knack for titles!

Great to have you discover Moore, Trevor. Judith Hearne is often cited as his best book but I'm not sure I agree with that (though it is certainly among his best). I've been reading through his novels in order of publication on my blog, though I haven't picked up that particular project in a year or more now. Anyway, I do hope you go on to read Moore... (groan!)
