Today the Giller Prize shortlist was announced:
- Going Home Again, by Dennis Bock
- Hellgoing, by Lynn Coady
- Cataract City, by Craig Davidson
- Caught, by Lisa Moore
- The Crooked Maid, by Dan Vyleta
This is a bit surprising to me. First, I’m almost finished with Going Home Again, and I don’t like it much at all (my review will be up later this week). And besides hearing only so-so reports of some of the others, the book that has most excited folks, Joseph Boyden’s The Orenda, did not move on. Perhaps it’s because Boyden won the prize a few years ago?
Anyway, this is where my work for the Shadow Jury officially begins, so expect reviews of all five titles in the next few weeks, before the announcement of the real winner on Tuesday, November 5.
