For nearly six years The Mookse and the Gripes has run as a mostly solo affair — though I have many people to thank for making it what it is today. Things changed a bit a little over a year ago when I invited Betsy to come “above the line” and contribute her thoughts on things she’s interested in. You’ve seen her posts on The New Yorker fiction and poetry and Alice Munro. I love our collaboration, and I assure you it is not coming to an end.
I receive a number of review copies each week, and I simply cannot read and review them all. I’d love to have some help with those, but it’s not limited to that. In general, I’m hoping to expand coverage on this site. If you have something you’d like to review, write, share, or whatever, please reach out to me.
At this point, I’m looking for a few contributors, either as regular or one-time posters, who are interested in joining the small Mookse and Gripes team in the following areas.
- Reviews of books, stories, poems, etc.
- Reviews of films from any and all eras
- Interviews of authors or artists
- Essays about things we’re interested in around here
Word length: I am not a stickler for word length, though most posts here range from 700 – 1500 words. As editor, I may ask you to add or cut depending on what I feel a piece needs (or whims, or whatever).
Payment: I regret that at the moment I’m not able to pay you for your contributions.
Editorial control: I maintain full editorial control. At this stage of my life, I’m pretty easy-going. If you’re interested in joining, I will write more about my viewpoints and expectations.
