In 1970, riding the last oscillations of the Czech New Wave, director Jaromil Jireš created a phantasmagoric look at a young girls maturation, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, containing the energy and creativity of the Czech New Wave -- as well as a healthy dose of its metaphorical subterfuge.
