A Child’s Christmas in Wales
by Dylan Thomas (1954)
New Directions (2009)
I just read Dylan Thomas’s prose / poem “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” and thought recommending it would nicely accompany my holiday greeting. The phyiscal book itself is striking. The high-quality paper is visible in the picture below as are some of the woodcuts that we find throughout this short but impactful book. It’s a book best read in one sitting, and perhaps with little more foreknowledge than this: “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” begins with childish mischief in the form of snowball fights and ends with a nice Christmas night.
I turned the gas down, I got into bed. I said some words to the close and holy darkness, and then I slept.
