They’ve just announced this year’s Man Booker International finalists.

The ten authors on the list are:

  • César Aira (Argentina)
  • Hoda Barakat (Lebanon)
  • Maryse Condé (Guadeloupe)
  • Mia Couto (Mozambique)
  • Amitav Ghosh (India)
  • Fanny Howe (United States of America)
  • Ibrahim al-Koni (Libya)
  • László Krasznahorkai (Hungary)
  • Alain Mabanckou (Republic of Congo)
  • Marlene van Niekerk (South Africa)

Some of my favorites here!

  1. It’s an exciting list, don’t you think Trevor? I can’t believe I’m saying this – but I’m torn. Cesar Aira OR Alain Mabanckou – how can you choose???

Allowing Americans to compete for the Man Booker Prize seems to have (unexpected bonus) made for a better International Prize. :-)
