The struggle was worth it. Here&#8217;s my final paragraph:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">It\u2019s a tragedy that Krzhizhanovsky had to deal with the politics and censorship of Soviet Russia \u2014 that shouldn\u2019t go unmentioned \u2014 but\u00a0I don\u2019t think the themes that pervade his work, closely linked to the forces he lived under and yet so universal,\u00a0would have been explored in this way were it not for that system. Krzhizhanovsky would have been thinking of other things instead of digging deep into his soul \u2014 in the dark \u2014 to pull out these bizarre stories. Also, while frustrating at times, I\u2019m glad these didn\u2019t suffer under any editorial attempt to make them fit what I expected. The book is imperfect \u2014 and, in a way, because of that, it\u2019s perfect.
