He knocked on my door about a month after the funeral. I almost didn\u2019t answer, since I wasn\u2019t expecting my fuck buddy. It was entirely too late for anyone to be visiting, but the man in front of me said that he\u2019d been a friend of my father\u2019s\u2014and I slipped on the face I wore for those people. It was three or four in the morning. He\u2019d caught a late flight from Kingston to Houston.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Then the man said something else, in a heavy patois. I asked him to repeat it.<\/span><\/p>\n His lover, this guy said, rubbing both of his elbows.<\/span><\/p>\n I made a new kind of face. Except it couldn\u2019t have been a new kind of face. [fusion_dropcap boxed=”no” boxed_radius=”” class=”” id=”” color=”#003366″ text_color=””]B[\/fusion_dropcap]ryan Washington’s “Waugh” (see post here<\/a>) was published in\u00a0The New Yorker<\/em> in late 2018, a few months before his debut collection\u00a0Lot<\/em> came out. Now he says, in his interview here<\/a>, that he’s wrapping up edits on his debut novel. I have to admit, I never did look into\u00a0Lot<\/em>. I’m glad to have this reminder!<\/p>\n\n
