The 2020 Booker Prize Shortlist<\/h1><\/div>

The Booker Prize shortlist has been announced! First things first: Hilary Mantel will not be the first to win the Booker Prize three times, and The Mirror and the Light<\/em> will not win Mantel the prize for each of her books in the Wolf Hall Trilogy. The judges have not shortlisted it.<\/p>\n

But perhaps that’s the wrong way to look at this. Like the longlist this list is surprising and continues to champion the debut: four of these six novels are debuts. The authors also make up a diverse group (other than that five of the six are from or now live in the United States), and that’s so nice to see.<\/p>\n

I myself am going to cheer for\u00a0Shuggie Bain<\/em>, at least for now, as it’s the only one I have read. I thought it was brilliant, though, so I feel good cheering for it anyway.<\/p>\n
