2014 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction Winner

UK A Girl Is a Half-formed ThingThis year’s Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction winner is A Girl Is a Half-Formed Thing, a debut novel by Eimear McBride.

I’ve still not read this, though I’ve heard great things about it, including this rave by John Self at Asylum. Based on his enthusiasm alone, I am very happy about this win!

The novel was also one of the eight books in contention for the inaugural Folio Prize earlier this year.

  1. It’s a fantastic book and unlike anything else I’ve read: I can only second John’s comments. Truly brilliant, the best debut in years and years, and I’m delighted that it’s won.

  2. I agree, completely and vehemently, with John Self and Lee. A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing is a truly astounding debut. I am overjoyed at the victory.
