The winner will be announced on November 9.
- David Bergen: The Matter with Morris
- Alexander MacLeod: Light Lifting
- Sarah Selecky: This Cake Is for the Party
- Johanna Skibsrud: The Sentimentalist
- Kathleen Winter: Annabel
Only David Bergen has been here before, and he took the prize in 2005 for The Time in Between.
I read four of the longlisters: Tom Rachman’s The Imperfectionists, Cordelia Strube’s Lemon, Douglas Coupland’s Player One, and Avner Mandelman’s The Debba. As you can see, not one made the shortlist. I would have liked to see both Lemon and The Imperfectionists on the list.
But their exclusion means I have five books to look forward to reading over the next month. I am thrilled that Alexander MacLeod’s collection of short stories and Kathleen Winter’s Annabel are on the list, as they were two that I really wanted to read. I’m a bit sad that Jane Urquhart’s Sanctuary Line didn’t make it. However, I foresee myself having a Jane Urquhart year fairly soon, so I think I’ll get there anyway.

Hello, (just dropping in on one of my favourite blogs while I’m overseas on holidays – I’m having a great time but I miss reading these posts)…
Five books in a month means you have an excellent excuse to avoid any chores around the house LOL!

Thanks for dropping by, Lisa. Keep us posted on your whereabouts!
Rachman snubbed again! I can only hope that the five on here are better…if so I will happily read all of them.
